Born and living in Cornwall within the United
Kingdom, I was orginally the kind of youth who did not mix well
with others of my peer group. it was a difficult time. I was not
the "popular" person in school. Why was this? The answer, upon
reflection, was that I simply did not fit the required criteria.
I was not outgoing, I had too many hormone inspired spots, I
wasn't a sports person, etc., etc. Despite all this, things
change. Sometimes they change as a natural course of events, but
sometimes you have to take positive control of your personal
circumstances. Fortunately my spots disappeared naturally, but
the rest I had to do something about. I had to take action. I
made decisions that would affect the rest of my life in a
positive way.

Within this site I have made an attempt to share my experiences with a view to helping you avoid the pitfalls and perhaps discover a renewed dedication in whatever quest may lay before you. Whether its friends you seek, or simply a new outlook, I would wish you luck, but luck does not come into it. You can either sit down and accept things as they are or you can take up the challenge as I did. Either way, the controls are in your hands.
Self-development was a subject that I began to take an interest in during my mid teenage years.
I read books about memory enhancement, self-hypnosis and the like. The content of such books
seemed almost magical to me, but like so many others, I made a stab at trying things out
and then placed the books on the shelves. I felt motivated, but it didn't last.

Things changed for me though when I left home and took the action described in my article. I discovered a new me that I didn't know existed. Don't get me wrong. I'm not "Mr. Perfect Positive Thinking" all the time. I'm simply an ordinary individual like you who recognises something as being worth pursuing and achieved solid results.
While deciding to adopt this approach, it was important for me to recognise that a)
it takes effort and b) most of the time I would achieve good results, but just occasionally my
thoughts might slip. In those time when I did slip up, I had to think of myself as a participant
in a race. A participant who had stumbled and fallen down. If I get up and start running again,
I am still in the race. You don't lose a race by coming last, you lose it by dropping out -
by not getting up and running again.

I have had the opportunity of giving various presentations
in various formats on topics relating to self-improvement and self-development. I believe it
generates enthusiasm and motivation - it certainly does me good! I am well aware though it is
the effort of the individual - the action he or she takes that brings it all together. The hardest
part is the genuine decision to do something. The rest just flows after it. I am grateful to the
various writers across the decades who provide inspiration and motivation. If you haven't already done so,
I would encourage you to read the King James version of the Bible, the books by Dale Carnegie,
Anthony Robbins, David Schwartz, W.Clement Stone, Napoleon Hill and others of their kind. Always
remember though to take action - to take positive control. Finally, I have always been grateful
to those who have supported and helped me something -even if only one or two words have helped you, then I am rewarded.
